How to Find Time to Exercise as a Busy Mom

Have you been living a busy mom life and you can’t find time to exercise with a baby? Or you have a busy toddler that takes away your energy for running around and climbing up and down your couch? Or maybe you have other kids with several afterschool activities that take up all your free time?

YES! Mom life can be really busy. There are days when you just finished doing laundry and the next thing you know... it’s time to prepare food for supper.

Finding time to exercise can be overwhelming. It’s not because we don’t want to do it but because we now have different priorities and time-management is very crucial.

As a first-time mom, I didn’t know what to expect. Transition to Motherhood was a fresh start for me.

As time passed by, I eventually felt the drive to get up and start doing something while my baby was sleeping. I know… I didn’t follow the tip “Sleep when your baby sleeps”. We all have differences and so this didn’t apply to me.

Today, I want to share with you these simple strategies on how to manage your day and fill your mommy routine with quick and effective ways to exercise as a busy mom.



BABY-WEARING

Babies love being snuggled by Mom, and baby-wearing through dance promotes bonding.

During the early days of my postpartum period, I enjoyed my time dancing with Little M while I followed Zumba dance videos. I was also doing it with my own steps as I play Nursery rhymes in the background.


Through dance, you are able to connect with your baby with the swaying and rocking movement.

Since he’s snuggled safely with me, it was a great time to do chores as well after while I babywear him. So it was a win-win!






STROLLER WALKS

One of the things that I enjoyed doing during my Maternity Leave was joining meetup groups. My baby was 4 months old when I discovered the Postpartum Support Group in Calgary. It opened my eyes to how lucky I am to have a supportive community and be able to connect and meet new people.


One of the ways that you can exercise while meeting new moms is to go for stroller walks. By doing this, meeting like-minded women who understand your struggles is a huge help especially when you’re a new mom like me. It does not cost anything and you get to smell and feel the breeze outside. DANCING

This one is my favorite. At around 8 weeks postpartum, I introduced Little M to a routine that we both liked. It was in December 2018 that we tried a Mom and Baby Ballet class offered by Balletiques and this has been so far the best decision I made when it comes to trying out some Postpartum Fitness Ideas. He likes the beat of the music, the rhythm, the swaying and rocking, and of course, the cuddles of his Mama.


Now that I have an 18-month-old, I managed to join one of the Balletiques classes with a Mom friend while our husbands spent time playing with our kids. So it was a triple effect for the whole family!


Balletiques classes provide a total body workout that combines the strength and elegance of ballet with the power and endurance of a traditional workout. It is a combination of ballet and fitness together making it more accessible, fun, and approachable for all.


HOME GYM WORKOUTS

If you’re like me who has a full-time job, a baby and a side-hustle, then going to the gym is impossible. That’s why setting up our basement as a Recreation area was a decision that we made and has been very effective.


Besides our gym area is Little M’s playroom. So while I give him the space for exploration and Independence, I try to find at least 30 minutes of my time to do simple workouts or yoga. It’s not consistent though with the fact that I can’t have my own quiet space but what can I do. Someone needs to keep an eye on the baby, right?


OUTDOOR SKATING

As a busy mom, we tend to forget that there are a lot of ways to enjoy our hobbies and still continue doing it even with a baby. So for the first few months as a mom, I was able to bring him with a stroller for outdoor skating. I found this really fun and a great leg workout too.


Now this time around, as he has now grown, we brought him with his own training skates and Mommy got to skate again. So don’t feel out of the loop. Motherhood is becoming more interesting every single day!
